Mission Statement

The Igbo Union of New Mexico (IUNM) is committed to promoting the Igbo language and culture, the lives and welfare of Igbo people and other minority communities in New Mexico. Our educational and cultural projects and capacity development programs promote community development. As indigenous people of Igboland, we work for the good of our land and our immediate community and cater to our Union members’ overall interest.

Our Core Value?

Following our constitution and bylaws, the Union organizes its members in harmony towards a shared community goal by supporting programs in education, social and community development services, recreation, cultural orientation, employment, health, and other basic human necessities in compliance with the established laws of the state of New Mexico and the United States of America with Igbo language and culture as a focal point. The Union generates funds through members’ contributions, public donations, corporate grants for the execution of the organization’s projects and programs and other community engagement initiatives. Members meet on the last Sunday of every month, either virtually or in person.

About Us

IUNM, Inc., is a group of Igbo people from Eastern Nigeria residing in the State of New Mexico, USA. Membership of this organization consists of Igbos and those with long, reputable relationships with the Igbo people. Those with respected relationships with the Igbo people are considered honorary members. Some of us have resided here in New Mexico for over twenty years. IUNM has been in operation for close to 10 years. Our mission is to promote the Igbo language and culture and to contribute to the economic development of the State of New Mexico.

Members of IUNM are professionals in various fields, including medicine, education, government legal, engineering, business areas etc. We operate in New Mexico as citizens of this State and contribute to the economic development of the State as we count our blessings. To this end, we have provided our services (Food and supplies) to the homeless shelter (Joy Junction), donated various school supplies, and provided computer literacy classes to the community. We also offered winter clothing to the needy thru KOAT TV. One of our next moves is to establish a program that our organization will support continuously throughout each year.

We are a non-profit organization approved by IRS under IRS 501(C) (3) status. Any support given to us in this regard will be greatly appreciated. Anyone can attend our meetings to learn more about our programs. We sincerely thank all those who have supported our causes, and we promise to uphold your trust in us and all that we strive for.
